Kite Coffee is a small, unpretentious café nestled on Primrose Street in the Belgian Gardens area of Townsville. It’s the kind of spot where locals seem to drift in most mornings, looking for a solid cup of coffee paired with something freshly baked. The owner, Alan, is known around these parts for his approachable personality and for crafting coffee that holds its own in a city that often struggles to deliver quality brews.

The café sits quietly within the Bayside Precinct, far from the hustle of the main town center. The setup is simple, with quirky decor and comfortable seating encouraging relaxed pit stops rather than rushed takeaway runs. Many visitors seem to appreciate the steady rhythm here—starting the day with a double shot cappuccino served in a mug, which seems to be a local favorite. The atmosphere is casual yet inviting, lending itself well to a chat with Alan or a moment to pause before heading out for the day.

While Kite Coffee doesn’t boast an extensive menu, it’s clear from chatter and repeat visits that the baked goods and sandwiches make fitting companions to the coffee. Regulars highlight the warmth they get from the service—something that turns this coffee shop into more than just a caffeine pit stop, but a comfortable meeting place where the drink and the conversation are both carefully tended.

This café is best for those who appreciate good quality beans prepared with care and for anyone who enjoys a laid-back morning ritual away from busier streets. Early mornings during the week seem to be when Kite Coffee thrives, catching locals before work or visitors settling into Townsville’s slower pace. There’s a humble charm in how a modest espresso machine and well-selected beans create a coffee experience that stands apart in a city not famed for its café culture.

After discovering this coffee shop on our first day in Townsville, we had coffee here each morning for our week stay. Great coffee! Very friendly owner, Alan, who also makes some great baked goods. Highly recommend!

It's just my opinion but Townsville is a wasteland for good coffee. This little place tucked away in a dead shopping centre in Belgian Gardens has now shown me that there is someone who can make a very good coffee in this city. A modest machine and grinder with some very tasty beans is all that it takes for the owner to put out a very nice brew. Pretty sure that it would be a locals secret but it's definitely worth finding if you want to get the best coffee in the region.

This little gem of a coffee shop is tucked away in a sleepy corner of Belgian Gardens in Bayside Precinct on Primrose St. The owner, Alan, makes a terrific coffee. The double shot cappuccino in a mug is perfect. The atmosphere is super friendly with quirky decor and comfy seats. Do yourself a favour.

Love this place! The owner, Alan, always brews a great coffee and his sandwiches and cakes are addictive. Over time the regulars in this place have become my “coffee-tribe”where you always feel welcome and everyone is happy for a little chat if you want to. And Alan’s warm personality and cheeky banter are a bonus

Was just stopping in for a coffee to go and stayed for an hour and a half. Allan the owner makes a fine brew and the conversation I had was bloody good too. It's not your average up market cafe but I'd rather go to Kites because it's like "Cheers" he knows the majority of his customers and he's already making their brew before they they reach the counter. I'll will be returning and the pies by local guy Amos are good too.
